STANTON : Arson Suspected in Tank Car Fire
- Share via
Fire officials are looking for an arsonist who set a small fire on top of an empty railroad tank car Tuesday.
The fire was set as the car sat on unused tracks in the 10000 block of Date Street. The fire was almost out by the time firefighters arrived about 9:30 a.m., said Maria Sabol, a spokeswoman for the County Fire Department.
Neighbors called firefighters after hearing an explosion in the residential area. An incendiary device was found on the tank car, but Sabol declined to elaborate, citing a pending investigation.
The damage--a burn mark on top of the tank--was estimated at about $50, Sabol said.
The tank car was one of several parked on the tracks, which are leased by Chevron Cos., Sabol said.
