So you feel a little foolish because you just can’t throw out your Barbie doll? Rest easy; you’re not alone. You could even be wealthier than you think.
Barbies are popular collector’s items and will be on display at the “Happy Dolling” Show and Sale on Saturday at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. According to hobbyist Barbara Kouri, mint-condition early Barbies can sell for around $3,000.
There will be a lot of other dolls at the show too. “I think we’re living in the golden age of dolling,” said Kouri, who is coordinating the show. She says there will be something for everyone.
More than 60 exhibitors will show antique dolls, modern collectibles, art dolls, miniatures, teddy bears, even G.I. Joes, and, of course, supplies for every facet of the hobby.
Doll artist Floyd Bell, who teaches woodworking at Westchester High School, is bringing some of his students and their wooden dolls. They’re selling their projects to raise money to buy more wood for the program.
The show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $4, senior citizens $3, and $2 for children under 12. Snacks will be available. Glendale Civic Auditorium is at 1401 N. Verdugo Road.
