Team USA Keeps Hughes, Drops Kendrena

Bobby Hughes, a former Notre Dame High standout and currently a catcher at USC, was among 10 walk-on players selected to join 31 invited players to participate in a three-game series against Venezuela at the U.S. Olympic baseball trials, USA Baseball announced Wednesday.
Ken Kendrena, a Cal State Northridge pitcher who was trying to make the team as a walk-on, was among eight players cut Wednesday.
