British Airways Cuts Transatlantic Fares: British Airways opened a new front in the transatlantic fare wars, cutting prices an average of 20% on full-priced economy, business and first-class tickets from nine U.S. cities. Delta Air Lines Inc. started the round of cuts this week by shaving up to 45% off summer fares on 36 European routes. American Airlines, United Airlines, Germany’s Lufthansa and Swissair made similar cuts. The cities from which British Airways is trimming fares are Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami and Washington.
