KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — The shuttle Atlantis lined up behind the shuttle Columbia on Thursday, marking the first time in more than a year that both of NASA’s launching pads have been occupied at the same time.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration rocket engineers and astronauts are attempting to get the two shuttles off the ground within three weeks of each other.
Columbia is set to launch on June 25, starting a record 13-day scientific mission. Atlantis will take off around July 16, but a final launching date has not been set.
