Japanese Bankruptcies Rise: Japanese bankruptcies rose in May for the 20th month in a row, a credit research company said. There were 1,191 bankruptcies of firms with debt of more than $79,300, Tokyo Commerce & Industry Research Co. said. The bad debt involved in the bankruptcies jumped 33% from May, 1991, to $5.03 billion--a record for the month. More companies are failing because their affiliated firms, clients or suppliers are going under, an analyst said.
