Sheriff’s officials are searching for a gunman who fired at a passing car from a late-model truck Thursday evening.
Jesus Albert Gonzalez, 18, of San Juan Capistrano escaped the flurry of bullets with only a flesh wound to his left forearm, a sheriff’s spokesman said Friday.
Sheriff’s officers were notified of the incident by officials at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, where Gonzalez was treated. Gonzalez told deputies that he and a male passenger were driving near Alipaz and Del Obispo streets just before midnight when they spotted a red Chevrolet Blazer pulling alongside.
The occupants of the truck fired several shots at Gonzalez’ car. The passenger was not injured.
Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Olsen said Gonzalez and the passenger could not provide a more complete description of the assailants. The men were also unable to offer a reason for the attack.
Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the possibility that the incident was gang-related, Olsen said.
