A 14-year-old bicyclist who was shot twice after getting into a brief fight with a group of men on bicycles has been hospitalized and was in stable condition Wednesday, police said.
The Santa Ana boy was riding in the area of Pine and Flower streets when five or six bicycle-riding men accosted him about 7:15 p.m Tuesday, police said. The youth, whose name was not released, got into a brief fight with the group and began pedaling away, said Sgt. Art Echternacht.
A pursuing member of the group shot the boy in the chest and arm, Echternacht said.
The victim rode through an alley before he collapsed next to a house in the 900 block of Chestnut Avenue, police said.
Police are investigating the shooting as gang-related.
