* Boxer Oscar de la Hoya was among six athletes honored at the Hispanic Public Relations Assn.’s 15th annual Latino Athlete of the Year Awards.
Also honored were:
* Dan Melendez, Pepperdine’s All-American baseball star.
* Liz Anguiano, a swimmer at Long Beach City College.
* Michelle Esparza, a basketball star at El Rancho High.
* Alma Torres, who will compete on the women’s wheelchair basketball team in the Para-Olympics in Barcelona.
* Rick Gomez, co-founder of the Hispanic Coaches Assn. and assistant football coach at Cal State Northridge.
