The district attorney’s office filed criminal charges Tuesday against the operators of a Los Angeles day-care center where a 2-year-old girl was badly scalded last week.
Lemuel Rodgers, 25, was charged with one count of child abuse causing great bodily injury for allegedly placing Kristen Williams in a tub of scalding water after she soiled her pants Friday. Rodgers pleaded not guilty in Los Angeles Municipal Court late Tuesday and his bail was set at $500,000. His wife, Kathryn, 36, was also arrested Tuesday on a charge of child abuse. The couple ran the licensed center out of their South Cloverdale Avenue home.
Williams is in critical condition at the Sherman Oaks Burn Center. She received second- and third-degree burns over nearly half of her body and has a 50-50 chance of survival, according to the district attorney’s office.
