Politics of the Abortion Issue

Please, can someone explain to me why Clinton may proclaim a Roe vs. Wade litmus test for his potential Supreme Court appointees, with hardly a peep from the media, but you howl to high heaven at the suggestion that George Bush may have done the same thing? Perhaps the answer to this will resolve why hypocrisy is a no-no for conservatives but is meat and potatoes for liberals.
