The new food science and nutrition lab at Cal State Northridge, where students and professors conduct research in a variety of areas from new products to vitamin deficiencies, has received an outstanding design award from two national professional journals.
The Marilyn Magram Center for Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, which opened in June of last year, was honored by the publications “Foodservice Equipment and Supplies” and “Restaurants and Institutions,” sponsors of the 1992 Food Facilities Design Awards.
Tung-Shan Chen, center director, said the lab is equipped with industrial, commercial and residential model kitchens, which are accessible to handicapped students, and state-of-the-art equipment for teaching and studying food composition.
The designer of the facility, Clevenger Nutritional Services of Calabasas, will accept the award.
