Across the Pond, Another Floyd Was Having a Good Day on Course

NAVARRE, Fla. — While Raymond Floyd created a stir in the British Open with an opening-round 64, his 16-year-old son had some golf success of his own Thursday.
Robert Floyd won the 29th annual Southern Juniors Tournament by six shots, after a final round of even-par 72 at the Club at Hidden Creek. He was six under par for the three-day tournament, a 210 total.
Floyd, who lives in North Miami Beach, shot 69 both Tuesday and Wednesday, opening a five-shot lead for the final round. John Walker, 16, of Macon, Ga., was second.
Floyd’s 17-year-old brother, Raymond Jr., also was playing in the tournament but faltered with an 81 Thursday.
The tournament attracted 176 players from 17 states and Canada to the course near Pensacola. It was Floyd’s first victory in a major junior tournament.
