PALMDALE : Recreation Center to Open Today
- Share via
Palmdale officials will open and dedicate a $2-million community recreation center today, naming it after Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard B. Hammock, who was shot and killed during a drug raid in Palmdale in May.
The 20,000-square-foot center, located at 815 E. Ave. Q-6 in a remodeled grocery store, will be open seven days a week. It includes a snack bar, one full-sized basketball court, two children’s basketball courts and space for table games. Hammock was an amateur hockey player and known for stopping to talk with youths while on patrol, city officials said.
