But What If the Husband Had Left?
Robin Abcarian, in her column (“Don’t Bother Telling This Dreamer ‘You Can’t,’ ” July 7), raves about Barbara Lewis, who left her husband in North Carolina, took her three children and headed for California to make her fortune where, after many trials, she graduated from USC.
I got the idea that Lewis left her husband only because she felt that life in North Carolina with him was “stifling and unhappy,” not because he was abusive to her and/or her children, or neglectful of them or that he cheated on her. If he did any of these things I could understand her leaving him.
Come on, Abcarian! If a man had left his wife and, especially, if he took the kids with him, under the same circumstances, what would your opinion be of him?
