Man Falls Off Pier in Ocean Beach, Dies

A 43-year-old man who apparently had been drinking fell off a railing at the Ocean Beach pier and died early Sunday, police said.
Gregory Lee Gates of San Diego was sitting on the south railing of the pier at 12:32 a.m. when he lost his balance and fell to the sand 35 feet below, landing on his head and neck, police said.
The self-employed machinist was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:02 a.m. by paramedics, who administered CPR, police said.
