OXNARD : City Will Unveil Traffic Radar Trailer
- Share via
Oxnard police have bought a new radar trailer that will be used to discourage speeding by letting motorists know how fast they are traveling, officials said.
The $8,000 mobile unit was paid for by donations and will be unveiled at 1 p.m. today at City Hall, 305 W. 3rd St.
Officer Tom Chronister said the device, which displays a vehicle’s speed in large numbers as it passes, will be used on heavily traveled streets throughout the city to remind motorists not to speed. Most traffic collisions in Oxnard are the result of speeding, he said.
The Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, Tri-County Traffic School and the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Ventura County were among contributors for the radar trailer, Chronister said.
Mayor Nao Takasugi, Police Chief Harold Hurtt and Council members are expected to attend today’s unveiling.
