Members of the Classic Yacht Assn. will have their pre-World War II pleasure yachts on display this weekend in Channel Islands Harbor.
The yachts will be docked today at Peninsula Park, 3333 S. Peninsula Road, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Owners, dressed in period garb, will show off their boats. Also, the public will be invited to board a few of the fancy cruisers.
The yachts will parade twice through the harbor on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. The public can view the procession from parks lining the harbor or from one of several waterfront restaurants.
The event, dubbed Classics by the Sea, will feature at least 10 yachts, the oldest built in 1929. One of the vessels, an 80-foot Hoffer-Beeching motoryacht, was frequented in its day by President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Weissmuller and Bud Abbott of Abbott and Costello fame.
