Pope in Tennis Consolation Quarterfinal

Derek Pope of Ojai won two matches Friday to advance to today’s consolation quarterfinals in the boys’ 16-and-under junior national tennis tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Pope defeated Adam Selkirk of St. Joseph, Mo., 6-2, 7-6, in the fourth round and Danny Goldin of Northbrook, Ill., in a quarterfinal qualifying match.
Pope will meet eighth-seeded Robert Tedesco of Locust Valley, N.Y., today in the quarterfinals.
In the boys’ 14-and-under junior national tournament at San Antonio, fourth-seeded Mike Bryan of Camarillo will play eighth-seeded Nick Crowell of Amarillo, Tex., today in the third-place match.
Third-seeded Bob Bryan, Mike’s twin, will play sixth-seeded Alex Kim of Potomac, Md. for fifth place.
