In response to Archibald L. Gillies’ column “Art Is Supposed to Be Difficult,” Commentary, Aug. 5:
I believe that artists should not compromise their creative freedom to the political whims of the government, whether it be the far right or the far left. Therefore, it is absolutely mandatory that government separate itself completely from either the approval or funding of any art.
Only through a “separation of art and state” will there be true artistic freedom. Abolish the National Endowment for the Arts!
