SANTA ANA : Police Seek Suspects in Two Shootings

Police on Monday searched for gunmen suspected of wounding four people in two shootings over the weekend.

In separate incidents along South Main Street that may be related, gunmen approached their victims Sunday night and fired at them after asking a question, police said.

In the first shooting at 9:51 p.m., a teen-ager walked up to a 16-year-old Santa Ana boy in the 300 block of South Main Street and shot him in the left leg, said Maureen Haacker, a police spokeswoman.

The gunman then ran down the street, Haacker said. Police said they did not know the condition of the youth, or what hospital he was taken to but they described his injury as not life-threatening.

The second shooting took place about 50 minutes later in the 600 block of South Main Street, Haacker said.

In that instance, a car pulled alongside a group of men talking on the street and a man in the car fired several times at the group, hitting Santa Ana residents Edwin Rosas, 20, and Vincente Trujillo, 18, and Jose Castro, 20, of Anaheim.

Rosas, Trujillo and Castro were treated at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange. The hospital would not release any information about their conditions.

Police said both incidents appear to be gang-related because the gunmen briefly questioned the victims before shooting at them.
