A Moorpark-based company that finds jobs for people with developmental and learning disabilities has received a certificate of commendation from a Los Angeles city councilman.
Business & Professional Consultants, an employment agency founded by former Moorpark Planning Commissioner Bill La Perch, received the commendation from Councilman Marvin Braude.
A spokesman for Braude said the councilman honored the company because of its success in finding employment for people with disabilities.
Since 1988, Business & Professional Consultants has found temporary jobs for about 500 people with disabilities ranging from blindness to learning disabilities, La Perch said.
About 200 of them have been hired as permanent staff by their employers, which include Southern California Edison Co. and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, he said.
La Perch’s company also operates an employment service for people who are not disabled. The firm is headquartered at La Perch’s home in Moorpark, but conducts most of its business from an office in Los Angeles.
