Glendale : Housing for Senior Citizens
Palmer House, a 22-unit apartment complex for senior citizens, will be dedicated Sept. 17 at 10 a.m.
The complex, at 555 E. Palmer Ave., is a joint effort between the city’s Housing Authority and Southern California Presbyterian Homes to provide low-income housing for senior citizens.
The project was financed with city redevelopment taxes and federal tax credits. The city-owned land was leased to Presbyterian Homes for 55 years to provide income for future development projects. The Housing Authority also provided a low-interest construction loan for about half the construction costs as well as an annual rental subsidy.
The Palmer House building is one of 14 retirement facilities operated by Presbyterian Homes, a nonprofit organization that provides housing for senior citizens.
