LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Community College Board OKs $370.5-Million Budget

A 1992-93 budget of $370.5 million was approved Wednesday by the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees, but officials warned that significant adjustments probably will be necessary to reflect changes required by the state budget.

The 120,000-student district’s spending package is up 7.2%, or $24.8 million, over last year’s budget. But its nine colleges received $1.5 million less than last year, primarily because of increasing districtwide costs, officials said. Employee benefit costs are up $5.4 million and other districtwide costs, including loan repayments and computer system upgrades, rose $13.4 million.

Community college districts are required by state law to adopt a final budget by the end of September. However the two-month delay caused by the battle over a budget for the state, which provides much of the local districts’ funding, will lead to further revisions.
