Caltech has received $250,000 from one of its trustees, Richard P. Cooley, and his wife, Mary Alice Cooley, to establish a scholarship in memory of their fathers. Richard Cooley is chairman of the executive committee of the Seattle First Corp.
The purpose of the Henry L. Clark-Victor E. Cooley Scholarship Fund is to support outstanding undergraduates who require financial assistance to attend Caltech, with a preference for students with a deceased parent.
Both fathers of the couple were unable to complete college because of the death of a parent. Clark, a high school dropout, later became an executive with General Motors. Victor Cooley attended college for three years and later became chairman of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.
