Alberta Premier to Resign After Vote

EDMONTON, Canada — Alberta Premier Don Getty, trailing in opinion polls due to criticism of his economic policies, said Wednesday that he is resigning after the Oct. 26 national unity referendum.
“I am proud of what I have accomplished . . . but the time has come to make a change,” Getty told a news conference.
Getty, 59, said he will call a meeting of party leaders to choose his successor.
