Maken Jorgennsen, 18, of Denmark was in critical condition after crashing into a parked truck during a road race in the world junior cycling championships in Athens. Police said she apparently was stung on the lip by a wasp and lost control of her bicycle, suffering serious chest injuries after slamming into the truck.
Her injury came in the second serious accident in the 12-day championship, which began on Sept. 9. On the second day of the competition, 16-year-old Japanese cyclist Nopriaki Shirasaka was killed when she hit a truck after running a stop sign while training.
