SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : New Convention Bureau Discussed
- Share via
San Fernando Valley business leaders are scheduled to meet today to discuss the formation of a convention and visitors bureau for the Valley to promote the often-overlooked suburban area to tourists and convention planners.
The 6 p.m. meeting at the Universal City Hilton has been arranged by Valley hotel operators and MCA Inc., the media giant that runs the Universal Studios tours.
The bureau is designed to capture part of the tourist business that is drawn to Los Angeles every year, organizers say.
The bureau plans a multifaceted marketing campaign to attract conventions, meetings and tourists to the Valley.
It will include advertising Valley attractions in major national travel and meeting trade magazines.
The meeting is intended to show prospective members what the bureau plans to do for the Valley.
The meeting will feature a 10-minute videotape of Valley attractions and accommodations narrated by entertainer Steve Allen, a Sherman Oaks resident.
