In other nonleague water polo:
Capistrano Valley 15, Foothill 13--Jake Yokota and Dan Batten each scored in overtime, giving host Capistrano Valley (6-0) the victory. Goalie Stephen Thornton had 11 saves for the Cougars. David Hay had six goals for Foothill (1-2).
Esperanza 15, Mission Viejo 6--Dru Wasson and Eric Poole scored four goals each and Brandon Martinez had two goals and five steals for visiting Esperanza (7-1).
Sunny Hills 11, El Dorado 7--Carlo Franzia had four goals and Eric Hyon added three for host Sunny Hills (2-1).
Trabuco Hills 14, Brea-Olinda 4--Ryan Thacher had five goals for host Trabuco Hills (7-4). Teammate Dan Will had seven saves.
Valencia 9, Estancia 5--Scott Liddicoat had three goals for Valencia (2-0). Teammate Bart Davis had 11 saves. Adam Bollenbach had three goals for Edison.
In Garden Grove League water polo:
Kennedy 12, Pacifica 3--Craig Gutjahr scored five goals for Kennedy (3-2, 1-0), the fourth-ranked team in the Southern Section Division IV.
In Garden Grove League girls’ tennis:
La Quinta 13, Santiago 5--Lynn Wu swept her matches at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1, 6-3 for La Quinta (3-1, 2-0). Teammate Thuy Nguyen also defeated each of her Santiago opponents at No. 3 singles.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 10, Santa Margarita 8--Marcie Asch, the No. 1 singles player for Corona del Mar (4-0, 2-0), swept 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Jenny Glasgow and Kristine Winton also swept their matches at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
Woodbridge 9, University 9 (Woodbridge won tiebreaker, 11-7, after tied in games, 78-78)--The teams played a full rotation of 12-point tiebreakers, and Woodbridge was declared the winner after winning 11 of the 18. Anne Risquez and Liz Adcock swept their regulation sets at No. 1 doubles, and also swept their three tiebreakers for host Woodbridge (2-3, 1-1).
In the Sunset League:
Edison 11, Rosary 7--Freshmen Kelly Foster and Tami Demaree helped Edison (4-1, 2-0) upset Rosary, the pre-season favorite in the league. Foster and Demaree won two of three matches for Edison. Joyce Cruz swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, for Rosary.
Marina 11, Huntington Beach 7--Holly Meyers swept at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, helping Marina (3-0, 2-0) over Huntington Beach (1-2, 0-2). Marina’s No. 2 doubles team of Susan Jensen and Amy Peterson also swept, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
In nonleague play:
Estancia 10, Capistrano Valley 8--Lauren Weaver and Kristina Grigaitis swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, for host Estancia (5-1). Capistrano Valley is 0-3.
