Marketing Director Resigns at UCI; He’s Leaving to Resume Coaching

IRVINE — Danny Williams, who became UC Irvine’s director of athletic marketing and promotions after losing his job as the women’s track coach last spring, has resigned.
Acting Athletic Director Barbara Camp said Williams--who lost his coaching position after 11 seasons because of staff reductions--is leaving to accept a head coaching job in track that will also include administrative duties.
Williams, whose resignation is effective Oct. 1, told Camp he could not announce the school that has hired him until the information is released by the school.
Camp has no word on whether the marketing position will be filled. “I hope so,” she said. “We’re counting on it.”
