Rio Mesa 37, Oxnard 36-David Belger’s two-yard touchedown run with two seconds left gave Rio Mesa (2-2) a dramatic come-from-behind win in a league opener at Oxnard.
Belger capped a wild fourth quarter that saw the two teams combine for 42 points. Trailing 22-9 after the third quarter, Rio Mesa took a 23-22 lead after Demetrius Henderson scampered in from two yards out and quarterback Don DiDomizio connected with James Johnson from 19 yards out early in the quarter.
Oxnard countered with a 38-yard touchdown run by Larry Bumpus to make it 30-23. But, DiDomizio raced for a 64-yard touchdown run to give the Spartans a 31-30 lead.
