COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Sweeps Saddleback in Volleyball

Heather Flaherty had 13 kills as Golden West swept Saddleback to win an Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball match at Golden West.

The Rustlers won, 15-5, 15-8, 15-3, to improve to 6-0. It was the 41st consecutive victory for Golden West, the two-time defending State champion. Saddleback is 2-4.

In another Orange Empire women’s volleyball match:

Fullerton 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Sarah Roney had eight kills to lead Fullerton (4-1, 1-0) to a 15-2, 15-1, 15-4, victory over host Rancho Santiago (0-4, 0-1).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:

Orange Coast 2, Golden West 1--Gaspar Gutierrez scored two goals for visiting Orange Coast (4-2-1, 1-0), which is ranked third in the state. Keith Baxter scored for Golden West (5-5, 1-1).

Fullerton 3, Cypress 0--Martin Wall, Mike Tsarnas and Jose Figueroa each scored a goal for host Fullerton (5-3-3, 1-1). Cypress is 3-5, 0-2.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Cypress 4, Irvine Valley 0--Midfielder Brandi Yates scored two first-half goals for host Cypress (6-1, 3-0), ranked third in the state. Irvine Valley is 2-3-1, 1-1.

In South Coast Conference water polo:

Golden West 18, Pasadena 1--Dave Kasa and Brian Carr each scored four goals for host Golden West (10-2), the defending state champion.
