Warmer Relations With Taiwan: The Australian government is planning to rekindle its relationship with Taiwan, even at the risk of drawing criticism from China. Tourism and Resources Minister Alan Griffiths said he has accepted an invitation from the Taiwan-Australia Business Council to visit Taiwan this month. It will be the first visit by an Australian minister to Taiwan in 20 years. Griffiths’ delegation will discuss bilateral trade links. Taiwan is Australia’s seventh-largest trading partner. In 1991, trade between the two exceeded $2.86 billion.
