KEENE, N. H. — John Hansen is suing the town of Richmond after it dropped a drunk driving charge against him. He said he had to spend money to prepare a defense and he wants to be reimbursed.
Hansen is seeking $2,025 in small claims court and his lawsuit has town officials fuming.
“It’s sick,” Selectman David Kochman said Wednesday at a hearing on the lawsuit, where it was noted that the town had to spend about $700 to consult a lawyer. “If we ever lost, I’ll never sign a check over to this guy.”
Hansen, 41, was arrested on June 13, 1991. The charge was dropped before the case went to trial because the arresting officer was suspended for an unrelated matter.
