Singapore Considers 10% to 20% Stake in Qantas: Singapore Airlines is looking at a stake in Qantas Airways but has no plans to take over Australia’s national carrier, a top official of the Asian airline said. Singapore Managing Director Cheong Choong Kong said the airline is considering a 10% to 20% stake in Qantas, and will spend “another two to three weeks” examining documents related to the negotiations. He said Singapore hopes to conclude a deal with Qantas by the end of the year. British Airways and a joint venture of Brierley Investments and Air New Zealand are also interested in taking stakes in Qantas.
