PREP NOTES : Vedder’s Mother Feeds Laguna Hills’ Streak
- Share via
Laguna Hills quarterback Justin Vedder isn’t the superstitious type, but he and his father, Vernon, are quick to point out an odd coincidence about the Hawks’ 12-game winning streak.
Just before Laguna Hills’ game against Estancia last year, Justin’s mother, Jewel, ate lunch at a Santa Ana restaurant. That night, the Hawks beat Estancia, ending a three-game winless streak.
She has eaten at the same restaurant every game day. The Hawks haven’t lost since.
“The only thing they serve there is turkey,” Vernon said. “One of our playoff games last year was the day after Thanksgiving, so she had turkey two days in a row.
“I think we’re having ham for Thanksgiving this year.”
Jewel might want to order a second helping today, when the Hawks play rival Trabuco Hills in the Pacific Coast League opener at Mission Viejo High.
