An Altadena man was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting, one night after he escaped unscathed from a similar incident, authorities said Thursday. Three suspects were arrested a short time later.
Gary Michael Tolbert, 24, was struck by shots fired from a station wagon at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, as he walked in the 2600 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue, Sheriff’s Deputy Gabe Ramirez said. Struck in the head, back and foot, Tolbert was pronounced dead 45 minutes later at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Deputies patrolling the neighborhood heard the gunshots Wednesday night and briefly chased the station wagon until it crashed into a wall. The three occupants--Laward Laron Daniels, 18; Darwin James Lee, 18; and Harry Lawrence McNeil, 30, all of Pasadena--were arrested. Deputies found a .357 magnum handgun in the car and a 9-millimeter handgun on the street nearby.
On Tuesday night, Tolbert had been shot at in the same area, but escaped injury, Ramirez said.
