Ex-AID Official Gets Prison Term for Bribes

WASHINGTON — John C. Kelley, a former Agency for International Development official, was sentenced to 43 months in prison Monday for taking $92,000 in bribes from two computer companies.
Kelley, convicted of bribery, conspiracy and obstruction of justice, also was ordered to make restitution of the $92,000 to AID, where he was deputy director of information resources.
He told officials from one computer company that they would have to pay $70,000 in bribes to do business with the agency. He also had the officer of another computer firm cancel a $20,000 personal debt owed by Kelley. In exchange, Kelley permitted the company to submit inflated bills to the agency.
