ORANGE COUNTY PLATFORM : Banning Skateboards on Newport Beach Boardwalk Is Not the Answer

Skateboarders are usually the younger kids and while I won’t say they’re discriminated against, they’re the ones who are always getting the harshest laws put down on them first.
I don’t believe that banning skateboards or any kind of wheeled conveyances is the answer. I believe enforcement of speed and safety laws is the answer in crowded areas. The young kids have to learn just as well as the bike rider.
The easiest way for a city that doesn’t want to spend any extra money to deal with a problem is to just get rid of it rather than put out manpower for enforcement.
Skateboarding is part of the Southern California lifestyle. If you ban skateboards--you might as well ban the rest of the stuff we do.
