Cal State Northridge professor Rudy Acuna, 59, filed a lawsuit against University of California officials alleging that they conspired to deny him a job at UC Santa Barbara because of his politics, race and age.
Acuna, a founder of the field of Chicano studies in the 1960s, contended that UCSB officials illegally discriminated against him in 1991 when they turned down his application for a professor’s job. A UC Santa Barbara spokesman said Acuna was not hired because he did not meet campus officials’ standards for scholarship, research, teaching and public service.
