I too recall the bountiful fruits of the San Fernando Valley (“The Walnut Kid,” Oct. 22). Timely thoughts:
Candied walnuts cured while in a state before full maturity--hull, shell and meat boiled in lots of syrup. After-dinner treat.
Olive and walnut spread--4 parts pitted olives, chopped; 1 part onion, chopped; 2 parts walnuts, chopped; dash of crushed red pepper; lemon juice to taste; mayonnaise to blend.
