Elderly Jaywalker Killed in Chula Vista

An elderly man jaywalking across a Chula Vista street Wednesday was hit by a car and later died, police said.
Harry Walter Kane, 84, was crossing the street in the middle of the 100 block of East Orange Avenue about 3:30 p.m. when he was hit by a car driven by Norma Latrice Withers, 23, of Chula Vista, Officer Dennis Dodge said.
Kane was rushed to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Neither Withers nor the two passengers in her car were hurt, Dodge said.
It does not appear that Withers was speeding and no charges have been filed in the case, Dodge said Wednesday night.
