PORT HUENEME : Man Indicted Over 2 Bank Robberies

A Port Hueneme man has been indicted on federal charges in connection with two bank robberies in June, FBI officials said.
Gerardo Morales Garcia, 33, was charged Tuesday by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles with the June 5 robbery of the Bank of America at 755 W. Channel Islands Blvd., and with the June 17 robbery of a Household Bank branch at 2671 N. Ventura Road.
The indictment resulted from information supplied by the public after Garcia’s photo, taken by a bank surveillance camera, was published in June in local newspapers, FBI officials said.
After an investigation by the FBI and Port Hueneme police, Garcia was arrested June 21 for a parole violation charge that was unrelated to the bank robberies, the FBI said.
Garcia is awaiting transfer from Wasco State Penitentiary in Kern County to the Federal Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, the FBI said. He will then appear before a U. S. magistrate judge where he will be given an opportunity to respond to the charges.
If convicted, Garcia could receive a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and fines of $5,000 for each robbery.
