HUNTINGTON BEACH — A driver who called 911 on his car phone to report that a man had brandished a gun at him was talking to police moments later in a parking lot when the suspect drove up, police said.
The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. when a young man reportedly pulled next to another car at a red light at Edinger Avenue and Golden West Street.
“The people in the other car were laughing and looked over to (the suspect) who said to them, ‘What are you looking at?’ He then held up a small-caliber handgun,” Police Lt. William Stuart said.
After the light turned green, the driver in the other car called police from his cellular telephone. About five minutes later, as officers were interviewing the witnesses in the Toys R Us parking lot at Edinger and Golden West, the suspect drove up to the store.
Payman Cabeti, 22, of Huntington Beach was taken to the Huntington Beach jail where he was held on suspicion of brandishing a handgun in a threatening manner, personal possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a concealed firearm inside a vehicle.
Bail has been set at $10,000, Stuart said.
