Garrett is an incendiary improviser who, despite the stellar quality of his associates, commands the forefront of nearly every number. Particularly exceptional are a burning, Ornette Coleman-esque chorus on “Computer ‘G’ ” and a nonstop virtuosic set of variations on “Jackie & the Bean Stalk.”
