Many parents stop reading to their children after they reach 8 or 9, and hours watching TV soon outdistance those spent with books, said a study released by the American Federation of Teachers in Washington. Researchers found 52% of parents read daily to their children under age 8, but only 13% of those with children aged 9 to 14 read to their children every day. About 42% of parents with children under 10 said their children read more than they watch TV, compared to 34% who said their children watch TV more. Among children aged 11 to 14, 46% spend more time watching TV, compared to 27% who read more.
