* * Diamond Rio, “Close to the Edge,” Arista. “Demons and Angels” is a skillful character study of a guy who’s torn between the bottle and his woman. And you’ve got to admire the sheer nerve required to tackle a pun as bad as the one in “This Romeo Ain’t Got Julie Yet.” Mostly, though, the group’s pretty bluegrass and gospel-derived harmonies dress up their platitudes on love and life like a silk gown on a russet potato.
