* * * Inspiral Carpets, “Revenge of the Goldfish,” Mute/Elektra. Four years ago, this English quintet was baptized in the retro-’60s groove of the Manchester scene, and on their third album the Carpets are still preaching their faith in reverb-heavy guitars, grinding organs and brooding lyrics. But the band has reworked the mixture a bit, giving the drums a more prominent place and letting some more aggressive instincts show.
