OTAY MESA : Ex-Officer Dies From Gun Wound

A former San Diego police officer died of an apparent accidental gunshot wound Friday night in his Otay Mesa neighborhood.
Residents in the 900 block of Blackwood Drive and Piccard Avenue reported hearing a gunshot about 11:45 p.m Friday and seeing Alan Aldrich, 54, stumble into a house on Blackwood and call for help. Aldrich lives on Blackwood, but it was unclear whether he entered his own house after being shot.
The county Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as Aldrich, a former San Diego police officer who was a self-employed construction worker. Police were investigating the shooting as accidental.
