Big Jet Order Announced: As expected, the aircraft leasing company International Lease Finance Corp. announced orders Tuesday for 82 jetliners valued at $4.1 billion. Boeing will build 53 aircraft, and the European consortium Airbus Industrie will produce 28, ILFC said. McDonnell Douglas Corp. received an order for one MD-11 jetliner. “Our core aircraft leasing business has been steadily growing in volume, demand and profitability, which is rapidly exhausting our existing order book,” ILFC Chairman Leslie L. Gonda said. Steven Udvar-Hazy, the Century City-based firm’s president, said he hopes that the orders “will be a spark plug to return confidence to the airline industry.”
